So did you smell these tulips? After your comment on my blog, I doubted my bold assertion that tulips have no fragrance. I smelled the tulips in my front yard and realized they do have a very faint scent. Oops. I guess Lydia knew more about it than I did.
Here's the deal about fragrant tulips: some are, some aren't. Many of the ones that are are orangish, but that's not a guarantee. Some fragrant ones are cream, red, or yellow.
